Persons with confusion or dementia who elope from facilities are at great risk of harm. Residents may become lost; be exposed to extreme heat, cold, or other inclement weather; enter traffic, bodies of water, or wooded areas; and be vulnerable to many other hazards, such as uneven pavement which increases risk of falls.
Mr. Smith upon entering the building was somewhat agitated, a bit disoriented and wanted to leave immediately. He was admitted and scheduled for his medical assessment within the normal protocol. He leaves the building within three hours and is found in less than an hour wondering the grounds.
